It’s June! It means Japan is entering the summer season and Indonesia (supposedly) is entering the dry season. Despite the geographical distance, both have something in common, the hot weather and humid air that persists throughout the day.

When seeking relief from the heat, there are various options beyond from bathing, swimming, and staying in an air-conditioned room, indulging in a cool and refreshing dessert and snack is something that can help you feel cooler. Some of these Japanese desserts are perfect to accompany you during summer and dry season days.

Kakigori

Kakigori stands out as a popular choice. It features finely shaved ice topped with syrup and a variety of tantalizing toppings. The cold shaved ice blends with the sweetness of the melted syrup on top, making the kakigori very tempting on a hot day.

You can make the kakigori with various kinds of toppings like fruits and jelly and then add more ice cream on top. Very tempting right?

Kohii Zerii

For those familiar with grass jelly drink, Kohii Zerii or coffee jelly similar to this drink. The difference is, black grass jelly is made from grass jelly leaf extract mixed with agar-agar or gelatin, Kohii Zerii features a unique twist by using thickened black coffee and mixed with agar-agar.

Like grass jelly drinks, you can mix kohii zerii with various syrups, milk, and fresh carbonated drinks. But with jelly made from coffee, it looks like you will be “awake” after drinking it. Fresh and keep you awake in the middle of a hot and tiring day, why not?

Daifuku and Mochi Ice Cream

Daifuku and mochi ice cream share a common characteristic, both are mochi dishes filled with delightful fillings such as fruit and other refreshing fillings. While daifuku are filled with sweet red bean paste, many also use fruits such as strawberries for the filling. Anmitsu

Anmitsu is a harmonious dessert that blends several other desserts and snacks. Usually anmitsu consists of anko (red bean paste), jelly, fruits, mochi, and various types of beans. To elevate the experience further some people even like to add vanilla or matcha ice cream to the anmitsu they eat.
